Poroskaltim.com, BALIKPAPAN - Ratusan atlet dari berbagai daerah hingga mancanegara beradu ketangkasan dalam Kejuaraan Pickle Ball Balikpapan Open 2025 yang resmi bergulir di Lapangan Pickle Ball Balikpapan Tennis Stadium (BTS), Kamis (6/11/2025).
Event yang berlangsung selama tiga hari, 6-8 November ini, tak sekadar menjadi ajang kompetisi, tapi juga pesta olahraga dan silaturahmi bagi para pencinta pickle ball dari berbagai penjuru.
Dengan mengusung semangat “Olahraga Maju, Balikpapan Juara,” kejuaraan ini dibuka secara resmi oleh Kepala Dinas Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan (Disdikbud) Balikpapan, Irfan Taufik, mewakili Wali Kota Balikpapan.
Irfan Taufik menyampaikan apresiasi kepada Disparpora Balikpapan atas terselenggaranya kegiatan yang menurutnya mampu memupuk semangat sportivitas dan memperluas partisipasi masyarakat dalam olahraga.
“Pickle ball ini unik karena bisa dimainkan semua kalangan usia. Melalui ajang seperti ini, kita harapkan olahraga pickle ball semakin dikenal dan menjadi cabang yang diminati, bukan hanya oleh atlet, tapi juga sponsor,” tuturnya.
Ia menegaskan, Pemkot Balikpapan akan terus mendukung kegiatan olahraga yang menumbuhkan gaya hidup sehat sekaligus membangun karakter.
“Kepada seluruh atlet, bertandinglah dengan semangat dan junjung tinggi persaudaraan,” pesan Irfan menutup sambutannya.
Di tempat serupa, Kepala Bidang (Kabid) Keolahragaan Disparpora Balikpapan, M. Norhan, mengungkapkan antusiasme tinggi para peserta menjadi bukti bahwa pickle ball kian diminati. Tak hanya diikuti atlet lokal, namun juga peserta dari luar negeri seperti Prancis, Australia, dan Singapura.
“Dari Balikpapan sekitar 150 peserta, sedangkan total keseluruhan mencapai 205 orang. Peserta juga datang dari NTB, Jakarta, Jawa Barat, hingga Surabaya. Semua kabupaten dan kota di Kaltim juga ikut berpartisipasi,” jelasnya.
Lebih dari sekadar kompetisi, lanjut Norhan, kejuaraan ini juga menjadi wadah pembinaan dan ajang perkenalan bahwa pickle ball kini telah berkembang dari olahraga rekreasi menjadi cabang olahraga prestasi.
“Harapan kami, minat masyarakat terutama pelajar di Balikpapan semakin tumbuh. Saat ini banyak anak SD hingga SMA mulai aktif berlatih pickle ball,” tutupnya. (man)
